The Louisiana Film Prize, a short-film festival that awards $50,000 to one short selected by the audience and judges, happens this year in Shreveport on Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. The festival coincides with the Louisiana Music Prize, which is put on by the same people and allows musicians in competition to receive various prizes and industry attention.
For the first time in the festival’s history, the LA Music Prize includes performances from musical acts that are not in competition. Some of the bands performing include nationally recognized acts like
- The Polyphonic Spree, whose music has been featured in the soundtracks for films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Thumbsucker, and The Big Short
- K. Flay, who performed at the Vans Warped Tour in 2014 and is featured in EA Sport’s FIFA 16
- Beach Slang, a Philadelphia band whose sophomore album A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings is scheduled for release on September 23, shortly before the festival
This is also the first year that the LA Film Prize has a musical and a horror film in competition. Chris Lyon, our guest for this episode and the festival’s filmmaker liaison, claims that this year’s film slate is the most diverse genre-wise to date.
I think the most successful filmmakers are really and truly in tune with the collaborative process.“ – Chris Lyon
In addition to his work with the LA Film Prize, Chris is also a filmmaker with a wide range of experience in production and post-production and has worked on projects ranging from Haynesville: A Nation’s Hunt for an Energy Future, a documentary that had a Spotlight Premiere at SXSW, to Salem, the TV series on WGN set in 17th century Massachusetts starring Shane West.
This effect took Chris months of planning. He explains how it came together in this episode.
